🥅 Final Liftlock Face-Off
After 66 years, the legendary Peterborough Liftlock Atom Hockey Tournament will host its final games in 2026. Known for launching future NHL stars like Gretzky and Lindros, the tournament has long been a pillar of winter in Peterborough. A shortage of volunteers and changes in minor hockey have led to its close but its legacy lives on.
🎻 Irish Spirit in the Air
Peterborough is marking the Peter Robinson Bicentennial with a lively lineup of Irish music, dance, and cultural events. From The Celtic Tenors & Mudmen at Musicfest or Wild Irish geese at the 4th line theatre, it’s a citywide celebration of Irish roots and 200 years of shared history.
🕰️ Millennium Time Capsule Opening
Step back in time as Peterborough unseals its Millennium Time Capsule on Wednesday, buried in 2000, and get a glimpse of life at the turn of the century. Celebrate the city’s 175th anniversary with live drumming, light refreshments, commemorative pins, and the burial of a new time capsule to be opened in 2050.
BUSINESS HAPPENINGS
🥪 A New Sandwich Spot on Chemong: The old Trip Taco location at 1794 Chemong Rd has a fresh new tenant, The Bell’s Table Sandwich Shack & Catering Co. Run by longtime local chef Jason Bell (a three-time Best Diamond Local Chef), the shop serves up breakfast sandwiches, daily specials, soups, baked goods, and coffee. They’re also booking mobile catering for weddings, festivals, and events.
🥤 Changes at the Minute Maid Plant: Coca-Cola is discontinuing its frozen juice line, leading to upcoming layoffs at the Minute Maid facility on Lansdowne Street. The frozen products will stop production in early 2026, though it’s still unclear how many of the roughly 80 unionized workers will be impacted. The company says it’s shifting focus to products that better match current consumer demand
