Good morning, PTBO! Ribfest is over and our arteries may never forgive us. Peterborough ate its weight in barbecue, the smoke’s still in our clothes, and we’re all pretending sticky fingers are a fashion choice. If you didn’t question your life choices over a half rack, you didn’t Ribfest properly.

In today’s PTBO Brief:

  • 🏡East Side Expansions

  • ⚾ U8 Peterborough Tigers Win Championship

  • 🌊Coming Down The River

Let's get to it.

— M&B

QUICK BITS

🏗 East Side Expansion

A $3M provincial grant for sewer and water upgrades east of the canal, stretching from Ashburnham Drive toward Television Road, could finally set the stage for new housing in the Liftlock area. The investment clears a major hurdle for long-discussed subdivisions and could eventually bring thousands of homes, though timelines remain uncertain.

⚾ U8 Tigers Win Championship

Big congrats to the Peterborough U8 Tigers, who clawed their way through a four-day tourney and came out champs on home turf. After rolling through East York, Windsor, Guelph, and Hamilton, the boys faced Scarborough twice in the finals. They dropped the first nail-biter, but stormed back an hour later with a late rally and some stellar defense to seal the Provincial championship. Way to go, Tigers!

🌊 Coming Down The River

Here’s a quick look ahead to some events coming 3 weeks from now.

THE BORO BUSINESS

🧘‍♀️ Summer Soul x Liftlock Cruises: Summer Soul is teaming up with Liftlock Cruises and taking self care to a whole new level with Wellness on the Water. On Sept. 14 you can climb aboard the Island Princess for a 90 minute cruise around Little Lake that mixes Pilates, yoga, drinks and a dose of community. It also happens to be their second anniversary, so think of it as a floating birthday party with better posture. They’re already planning fall leaf tours and even a floating studio at next year’s Musicfest, so this might just be the start of Peterborough’s newest wellness tradition.

🐢 Ontario Turtle Conservation Grand Opening: The Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre has officially opened its new home at 2785 Television Road, and Friday’s grand opening was a full-on shellabration. Supporters, volunteers, and community members came out to mark the milestone, showing plenty of love for Ontario’s turtles. If you missed the open house, you can still drop by the Education Centre daily from 9 to 5 to meet the turtles and learn more about their work.

Cork & Bean Hours change: Peterborough’s go to spot for coffee, wine, craft beer, and charcuterie, has updated its hours. You can now drop in Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 10 PM, Saturday from 8:30 AM to 10 PM, and Sunday from 9 AM to 5 PM. Whether it’s a sunny afternoon on the patio or a cozy evening indoors with a glass of wine, there’s now more time to enjoy one of downtown’s favourite hangouts.
